I have to admit that I never intended on visiting Brussels, but since one of my very good friends lives there, I decided to go visit her. All I can say is that I deeply underestimated the city that is beautiful and quite charming.
Brussels is the capital of politics, where European legislations are being created and passed. Even though it is an important characteristic of the city that you definitely need to explore, Brussels is more than that with great nightlife and stunning architecture. So, when visiting it, make sure to not miss the following sights.
Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert
A shopping alley with amazingly decorated stores and an impressive arch-like ceiling. Most of them sell various types and flavours of chocolates, biscuits and jewellery. Neuhaus is said to be the best chocolate you can find in Belgium, so head to their store. Maison Dandoy besides being a gorgeous store, it has some great biscuits you have to try. While in the Galerie, visit Mokafé Taverne, Corné Port-Royal and Pierre Marcolini.
Parc du CinquantenaireAlso known as Jubelpark, with structures that represent the economic and industrial performance of Belgium over the years. A big park, with great architecture. If you visit during spring and summer, you will enjoy the green park with its fountain and find many people spending their day there. But during winter, the fountain is still on, but it gets insanely cold in this open space.
Serres Royales De LaekenThe Royal Greenhouses of Laeken are only open from 17th of April until 8th of May. Visiting during these 3 weeks, you can visit the glass greenhouse for some unique plants and palm trees, among others.
Grand PlaceThe central square of Brussels that is surrounded by Maison Grand-Place, the Brussels City Museum and the Brussels Town Hall is considered as one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. Since 1998, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Make sure to visit the square at night, as all buildings are lit up and the view is quite stunning.
ParlamentariumThe visitor´s centre of the European Parliament. Admission is free and a free audio guide is available in 24 languages. Know that you must leave your belongings in lockers. You can learn about important events that happened throughout the years, check the current members of the European parliament, sorted by country and make decisions on legislation that have already passed or have been rejected. Do not miss the 360° film at the plenary hall.
Mont des ArtsKnown as the hill of arts, Mont des Arts is a garden and a highpoint for some of the finest views. At night it is lit up with many colours showing the beauty of the garden. That is also the place that most concerts of events are happening.
AtomiumAtomium was originally constructed for the 1958 Brussels World Expo but is currently a museum. One of the most popular sights in Brussels, since its structure and size, make it impressive and quite unique. You can visit all the spheres, except for 3 and see their permanent exhibition about the world’s fair in 1958.
There is also a temporary exhibition that changes once a year. You should also visit the top sphere that is basically a restaurant with panoramic views. The museum is open daily from 10.00 to 18.00 and the ticket is 16euros per person.
Avenue LouiseOne of the most prestigious and expensive shopping streets in Brussels. There, you will find all luxury brands, as well as all top global brands and in case you get tired of shopping, there are many restaurants and cafés in the area.

Manneken Pis
The famous bronze fountain sculpture, showing a little boy pissing. The original sculpture has been replaced in the sight and is currently displayed in the Brussels City Museum. Even though the famous boy is far too small and really nothing interesting, there is no way you can miss it walking along the streets near Grand Place. The ´Little Pissing Man´, represents the humour and independence of mind of the Belgian citizens.
Everard ‘t SerclaesLocals believe that whoever touches the statue of Everard ‘t Serclaes, brings luck and grants all wishes of those who touch it. Usually, tourists stop by and rub the statue´s arm, as it is said that rubbing will ensure your return to Brussels.
European ParliamentThe main offices of the members of the European Parliament. You can visit free of charge, but make sure to bring your ID or passport with you. The Parliament is open for visitors from Monday to Thursday (09.00 – 16.00) and Fridays (09.00 – 12.00).
The Walls of Comic StripFor the lovers of comics, Brusells invites you to explore the city, while looking for the comic strip murals on buildings. There are about 60 walls around the city, with the most famous being the ones depicting Asterix and Tintin. Visit the official tourist site of Brussels to see the locations of all them.
Palais RoyalThe official palace of the King and Queen of Belgium, but not their residence. A beautiful building with great architecture and gardens. The Palace is only open to the public during a specific period (from 21st of July until the beginning of September), from Tuesday to Sunday (10.30 – 17.00).
Brussels is a great city to visit at any time of the year. Of course, everything looks better during spring and summer. Just embrace this underestimated city and try all the delicious food!
