The 7 Christmas Markets in Berlin you MUST visit during COVID

The quite anticipated Christmas time has finally come and Berlin has once again transformed into a fairytale that takes your breath away. There are Christmas markets all over town, some bigger than others. Every year, from the moment they begin, the city is filled with people visiting each one and enjoying the holiday spirit.

Of course this year things are again different. Most Christmas markets in the city operate under the 2G rule, meaning only fully vaccinated and recovered individuals can visit, but some operate under the 3G rule, which means you must have a negative rapid test, if not vaccinated or recovered. Exceptions apply to people that have medical proof that they cannot be vaccinated and must have a negative PCR test. All visitors must wear a mask.

There are new smaller Xmas markets all around the city, as well as some big ones that are canceled, such as the one in Neukölln, Britz Palace, and Charlottenburg Palace. A beautiful market at a great location with an atmospheric view of the palace.

Charlottenburg Palace

Every year this Christmas market takes place in the heart of Spandau and is one of my personal favorites. However, this year due to COVID, the market will take place in the Zitadelle Spandau, the best-preserved fortress of the High Renaissance in Europe. It is a truly unique opportunity to get the Xmas magic combined with the fairytale castle.

Of course, Berlin has a Christmas market in every single neighborhood. Some quite big and some much smaller. But, no matter where you are, you cannot miss one and stop for a quick Glühwein or even try the German sausages.

Just make sure to wear a mask, keep your distance, and stay safe!!
